The purpose of this would be to see how many transactions each position could handle, and allow them to watch the various scenarios when they add, take away or re-combine these positions. They would also want to see the difference (if any) of having these positions in separate places in branch vs. all in more place.
The model developed for them by MODELCO - Spanish distributor and expert modeller of WITNESS- generated by menu "any" front office of a commercial bank branch. You choose the number of managers, tellers, sales persons, receptionists, ATMs and 24 hr ATMs, and telephones or terminals for clients. You choose different service/queuing protocols (e.g. tellers may have dedicated queues, a single queue, or a ticket system). You choose different client profiles, mixes and show-up schedules. Overall there are 3 million+ possible combinations!
The model then simulates a one day (or week or month) operation, computing resource occupation, queue average and maximum lengths and times, client in-branch time, clients becoming impatient and switching from one service to another or abandoning a queue.
The model permits optimally sizing the branch and choosing the service tactics best suited for the Bank service policies and standards.
